Orit Mark was only sixteen years old when her life was turned upside down. When the terrorists’ bullets hit the vehicle carrying her and her family, she found herself on a painful and unimaginable journey, dealing with the death of her father, Michael, in the attack and her mother’s long and difficult recovery after being critically injured. Alongside her nine siblings, each scarred both physically and emotionally, they struggled to support and care for one another. Three years later, her older brother Shlomi was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind a wife, three children, and grieving siblings and parents. Despite these harsh realities and all the challenges, Orit navigates her way armed with faith and optimism, choosing every day to embrace life and goodness.

קרן אור שבורה

Broken Ray of Light is the story of Orit’s struggle with the challenges of her life. It’s a tale that one cannot remain indifferent to. With loving tenderness and almost palpable anxiety, she describes the years that have passed for her and her family since the deadly attack. Her youth abruptly ended, bringing questions of faith, grief, and daily struggles with the void left in her heart and life.

Orit Mark Ettinger’s writing shifts from youthful innocence to profound, sober insights and vibrant youthful energy. She skillfully transitions between the warmth of her loving, joyful, and large family to the cracks that have appeared following the severe upheavals. This is an inspiring journey of maturation and growth for a young girl who, from deep grief, becomes a wife and mother, establishing a living legacy in memory of her father and brother, and carving a path of light through a dark and frightening world.

Orit Mark Ettinger is a lecturer in communication, a social activist, and the CEO of the “Or Michael” organization, which she founded.
